This home was designed to serve as both a vacation home and a luxury rental experience. The property features multiple kitchens, distinct areas for entertaining, ensuite bathrooms for the six bedrooms, and a garage-sized for ski boats and multiple cars. The site, planted with indigenous trees and shrubs, includes 1400 feet of lake frontage and numerous hiking trails.
While the property is over three acres, the development site is highly constrained due to setbacks from the river, multiple wetland areas, the riparian corridor, the adjacent state road, and, finally, the right of the Hydro Authority to flood the property to a particular datum line. The main house sits on the sliver of land that remains and varies from 8-16’ wide as a result. The kinks and odd angles of the home follow the setback, maximizing the size of the interior spaces.
The trusses and siding used in the region’s industrial and agricultural buildings served as inspiration for the design. The solid back wall of the house shelters the interior and property from traffic noise and is intended to create a feeling of seclusion.
